In Memoriam

Sylvia Varr
October 27, 1926--May 21, 2023

Sylvia Iani Varr, 96, of Vero Beach passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023.
She was born in New York City on October 27, 1926 to George Tegu-Iani and Roza (née) Nusi. She attended New York University earning a Masters, and later taught classes in business education. She was married to Harold Varvaris Varr for 57 years, raising three children in Queens and then Manhasset Hills, NY and later in Gladwyne, PA. Harold and Sylvia were introduced to Vero Beach, FL by longtime friends. Sylvia loved her Vero Beach friends and community for more than 30 years.

Sylvia’s passion since childhood was art, with her paintings ranging from landscapes and still life to portraits. In fact, she loved painting her family — her parents, husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She looked forward to her art classes at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. In more recent years, she developed an interest in painting in a more modern art and abstract style. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold and her parents.

Sylvia loved spending time and being visited by her family. She is survived by her three children; Donna, Richard and Janice; her grandchildren Kristen, Alan and Evan, and her great grandchildren, Tatum, Grayson and Caden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to contribute memorial contributions in Sylvia’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
